Our story

We're the Hunt Family, proud owners and 5th caretakers of the History of the Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast, in Upper Lake/ Nice, California. We are so happy you are interested in learning more about us!

We are dual Military Veteran family! Ali (ME!) was both prior Military & a Law Enforcement Officer, turned Hospitality & Creative Director. My Husband Jamie served as a Firefighter for several years before joining the Military, where he served 24 years as a Fighter Pilot. He is now a Commercial Pilot for a major Airline. I am the main owner & operator, but this is a family business through & through! Jamie & I are from Tucson, Arizona. We share two homes, the Featherbed Railroad & our sunny Tucson home. While back in Tucson, we have an amazing Operations Manager, Sandra, and team who work diligently to create the amazing guest experiences we also love to provide. We all help each other in this venture in every way we can. We have a Daughter & 6 rescue dogs! We love traveling & enjoying time spent in unique places , doing unique things... which is what led us to the Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast in the first place! It was love at first caboose... We plan on continuing to grow this small business for many years to come & we are so happy to be the caretakers of this piece of history! We want this to be a home away from home for everyone who passes through our doors... we look forward to meeting you soon!

What we're about

At the Featherbed Railroad Bed & Breakfast, we care for a one-of-a-kind collection of historic cabooses nestled along the shores of Clear Lake in beautiful Lake County, California—and we take just as much care of the people who come to stay in them.

We believe the magic is in the little things: a thoughtfully prepared caboose waiting for your arrival, a homemade breakfast to start your morning, a friendly face when you need something, and local recommendations that help you experience Lake County beyond the usual stops.

More than simply a place to stay, the Featherbed Railroad is a place to slow down, reconnect, and experience a little railroad history along the way. Come for the cabooses, stay for the hospitality, and leave with a story worth telling.

Whether you’re joining us for a quick getaway, a romantic weekend, or a longer stay, we want the Featherbed Railroad to feel like more than a place to spend the night. Settle into your caboose, slow down by the lake, linger over breakfast, and make yourself at home. For however long you’re here, you’re part of the railroad for a little while.
