Learn The Secrets of Wine tasting
Have you ever wondered if people talking about the blueberry overtones of a wine were really full of baloney? Can you really taste the difference between a 2008 wine and the same wine from 2009?
Winemaker Stephen Dilley of Lavender Blue Vineyards has earned double-gold medals for his wines but, more importantly, is a really friendly and down-to-earth individual and will be offering a wine sensory weekend at the Featherbed Railroad.
Insider's Secrets to Enjoying Wine Weekend
March 13-15, 2015
This fun weekend will start with a tasting of Lavender Blue wines on Friday afternoon with several appetizers paired to the wines. This is simply a great way to start the weekend.
Saturday join Stephen Dilley as he takes you through the insider's secrets to tasting wines. This is a workshop where you will get to put your nose and palate through a fun journey where you will ultimately learn the secrets to tasting differences and subtleties in wine. This is a great way to advance your skills if you're already an aficionado but also a fantastic way to finally learn about wines if you've always considered yourself a novice. With Stephen's friendly style this will be an easy and fun way to learn new things about wines even for the person who just thinks the only difference between a $12 bottle and a $120 bottle is a factor of ten.
Once you've learned the insider's secrets to wine tasting we will treat you to a full three-course dinner paired with a variety of local wines. This will give you a chance to test your fantastic new skills while also enjoying one terrific dinner. Our catering partner, Shannon Michelle, prides herself to sourcing incredible local ingredients that are expertly paired with wines from Lake County. Truly Shannon's food is outstanding.
Those wishing to join us on Sunday will venture over to Six Sigma winery for a very special barrel tasting. This will give you both one more chance to test your new skill set while also seeing how wine is stored and tasting wine in various stages of aging. This last segment will only be available to the first five couples who sign-up for the weekend as space in the barrel room is very limited (it's full of barrels!).
The total cost for the entire weekend experience is $150 and will be only available to guests of the Featherbed Railroad. Right now we are limiting reservations to telephone reservations only so call soon - some rooms have already been booked for this very special weekend.
