When you think about it, our entire resort is green in that the cabooses are recycled from the railroads, the Main Station is recycled from duty as a "glamping" resort built at the turn of the last century. We live in the county with the Cleanest Air in California. So it was with that in mind that we sought out green ways to keep the entire place clean.
It's not fair to our excellent housekeeper that she breathe the third cleanest air in North America yet poison her lungs and skin with dangerous chemicals all in the name of keeping things clean. Yet we want to keep things clean. Really clean.
As part of our testing we've looked at germs, air quality and appearance of the rooms. As you may know, Peggy is a Geologist so she loves studying things in depth and she definitely did her homework on this.
After extensive search, we came across a line of cleaning products that really do keep bathrooms as clean as you would want your children's kitchen to be and do a great job everywhere else as well. Your expectation is a clean resort and that's what we wanted, too. But we got a bonus - products so safe that you could practically drink them. Not that you would, of course.
When you stay with us, we'll be happy to explain more and show these products to you.
We've also reconfigured the garbage cans here so it's easier to recycle. There are recycle bins in every room and we've placed a big recycling container where you can easily access it.
We've also started installing more efficient tankless water heaters which have the great benefit of providing unlimited hot water but not wasting energy when not in use. Another situation where everybody wins!
The pool is completely solar heated now and we rebuilt this system over the summer.
We are even installing some ultra high-tech LED lighting in certain places including new lights on the dock and in the common areas.
Recently we got an "energy audit" where an expert came through to help us be greener. The auditor was surprised that nerdy Tony knew as much as she did about high-quality energy-efficient products and we had already done more than she was authorized to recommend.
Maybe this will make other resorts green with envy, but it'll just make our resort green. Which is cool.
