With dozens of trees older than these United States, you should find a peaceful place on our grounds. There are picnic tables shaded by centuries-old oak trees, pastoral benches and a nice, open lawn if you feel like enjoying a picnic in the shade.

We have a pool that is heated by the sun and kept ready for swimming from May through October.

One of our old oak trees has a swing suspended from a branch with enough rope so that even the biggest adults can find air and everybody feels like a kid again swinging from this branch!

On our historic Main Station are comfortable places to watch nothing happen - a big change from the big city. A traffic jam happens when too many of the local geese or ducks stops in traffic lanes or along the driveway around the property.

Out front is a railroad hand car that's the perfect spot for a photograph. Toward the center you'll see the antique English Telephone Box but instead of a phone, there's an antique English fire bell. It's okay to break the peace by giving it a spin and it's fun to do so.

TropiCaboose - a rail trip to the tropics

Stepping into the TropiCaboose is like walking into a resort along the shores of the ocean in a place like Key West or Hawaii. The entire room is light and airy with inviting wicker furniture, beautiful hardwood floors and a light, coconut color scheme that really puts you in the mood to enjoy a margarita.

Instead of shoes, you might find yourself donning flip flops and thinking about the trade winds lightly blowing across Clear Lake. If you weren't so relaxed already, you might want to stroll outside and walk down the dock to feel the warm winds against your skin.

Look up and we've caught a beautiful hand-made Maherajah water ski that's been trapped with some shells in a fishing net. There are margarita glasses waiting for some lime, grenadine and tequila. The bed spread is a beautiful Dean Miller piece and there is even a Tiki button! You'll just have to stay with us to find out what that does.

Is that Margaritaville playing in the background? Have you stepped into a tropical paradise, or are you just in the TropiCaboose? It's up to your imagination.

Wild Wild West Caboose

As you step into the Wild Wild West Caboose you are transported back in time to when the Clear Lake area had prospectors and cowboys roaming the expansive hills and enjoying the beautiful crystal clear waters.

Decorated with handsome antiques, the Wild Wild West has a varnished wood ceiling and your own private bar that you can stock with your own beverages - whether that be something from one of nearly 30 wineries in the area or your own rotgut, pardner!

The Wild West West even has some antiques in the privvie including a genuine clawfoot bathtub and a pull-chain toilet.

Wild Wild West History

Wild Wild West started its life as a Caboose on the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe rail line. For those who remember the caboose man perched up high, you can enjoy this experience today in the Wild Wild West. The second-story cupola has two seats which are the perfect spot to watch the sun rise or set with a cool beverage or some hot coffee. The view is great from up there!

Celebrations Caboose

We get the very best ideas from our guests and someone who stays here regularly suggested we have a room we can change for each season or to re-theme if someone has a special celebration. That caboose is Celebrations (formerly Rosebud).

Whatever the season, this caboose gets very special decor to celebrate that holiday or special occasion. During certain times of year, we can also re-decorate it for your very special occasion such as an anniversary, birthday or very special celebration.

In November, 2011 we redecorated Celebrations once again with all new lighting throughout. There are reading lights over the bed and unique floral lights flanking the bay window. We sourced a beautiful antique armoire from our friends at Studio Antiques. There are now two cozy wingback chairs for reading. There's also a brand new flat screen TV with both DVD and VHS player for your viewing pleasure.

Once it's time to really relax, fill up the Jacuzzi tub for a comfortable soak. Of course there is the fabulous featherbed as well.

Casablanca

Transform yourself from the peaceful surroundings of Clear Lake into the past when Bogie and his leading ladies ruled the silver screen. Step into Casablanca and stroll by the upright piano in Rick's Cafe Americain, awash in the glow of the red neon sign. Over on the corner you might spot Bogie's hat and coat on the antique coat rack.

But they didn't have it this good - there's a Jacuzzi tub in the caboose and peach-tinted mirrors sandblasted with palm trees.

Feeling musical? The sheet music from the movie is on the piano across from the bar, so you can "play it again, Sam." Or, maybe just a restful sleep in the featherbed after a sampling of the local wines from the over 30 wineries in the area.

If you've forgotten a story detail, you can even watch Casablanca on your in-room video system.

Casablanca started its life as a Caboose on the Southern Pacific rail line. Southern Pacific built these cabooses with bay windows instead of a cupola on the top. This means this caboose is a little bigger in the middle. We believe that this caboose served on local lines up in Northern California and was built right after World War ][.

Wine Country Caboose

With almost 30 super premium wineries just a short drive away, it only makes sense that one of our Caboose Rooms is a tribute to these local vintners. Above your Jacuzzi tub is a beautiful mural of the wine country to help you relax. The grape vine furniture has been lovingly crafted by hand and stenciled clusters of grapes adorn the walls.

The table, crafted by Wine Country Woods, started life as a wine barrel. Your seat covers, too, are former wine barrel lids. Bring along your favorite bottle of wine and you can enjoy it while luxuriating in the two-person Jacuzzi tub.

With oak floors and a mini wine press up in the Cupola, this is a terrific place to celebrate a trip to the wine country in style.

Wine Country Caboose History

If you've hummed along to the song Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe you have sung about this caboose, which was a member of that railroad's family. This is a very traditional caboose from the outside, while being completely refurbished on the inside. It features a second-story cupola from which the "caboose man" used to wave. We believe this caboose was built in Kansas City just after World War ][ and was used in high-speed freight trains, traveling all over the USA before it retired at the Featherbed Railroad.

Easy Rider

If you enjoy riding your Harley Davidson Motorcycle through the beautiful mountain roads and along the shoreline of Clear Lake, then you will definitely enjoy a stay in Easy Rider. Relax in the "Easy Glider" chair complete with saddle bags while you enjoy the Harley touches in this unique caboose. From the orange, black and chrome colors to the custom made headboard with handlebars and the original etched mirror behind the Jacuzzi tub for two, this is definitely a unique and romantic experience.

Climb up to the Cupola for a glass of wine and you'll notice our quarter-scale motorcycle replica displayed in its own black-and-white tiled showroom. But you don't have to be a motorcycle enthusiast to enjoy this suite. WIth its beautiful marbled floors and the smoked mirrors above the bed, this is a romantic retreat for anyone.

La Loose Caboose

If you've ever thought about a trip to New Orleans for Mardi Gras, perhaps getting sidetracked in La Loose Caboose might be just the thing. As you enter your caboose, you are warned by the New Orleans Police Department to Beware of Pickpockets and Loose Women.

Once inside, there is a burgundy Jacuzzi tub for two and a bar where you can see beautiful Clear Lake. The queen-size bed sits under a mirrored ceiling in La Playpen which is highlighted by a neon sign denoting the area. Marbled floors and golden crown molding round out the appearance of a New Orleans bordello.

The original artwork comes to us courtesy of the government's auction at the Mustang Ranch, where a beautiful and appropriately tacky nude on velvet completes the bordello theme. The second-story cupola is the perfect place to watch the sun rise or set if you don't feel like leaving the room and enjoying the private deck overlooking the Lake.

If you've ever dreamed of a journey on the famed Orient Express, our Orient Express themed caboose is for you. The beautiful art deco mirror behind the Jacuzzi tub for two is the focus of this elegant room. Black, teal and gold are the colors that complete this room and transport you in time to a very nice place. A private deck with views of Clear Lake and Mount Konocti in the distance enrich the journey to relaxation. The second-story cupola is the perfect spot to enjoy a beautiful sunset over Clear Lake.

If you're looking to surprise that special someone for an anniversary, birthday or even a honeymoon, the Lovers Caboose could be just the thing! Tony & Peggy would love to help you with this celebration by placing petals on the bed, or arranging for some locally-crafted exceptional truffles.

With its canopied bed and peach colored mirrored accents, many people have referred to the Lovers Caboose as the Honeymoon Caboose.

Part of the uniqueness of the Lovers Caboose is the private Jacuzzi tub, our only caboose where the tub is nestled away in its own private room. Bring along a bottle of the bubbly - there are a few unique local sparkling wines that you can pick-up along the way.

Right outside your door there is a little park setting with a fountain and the shade of one of Northern California's famous redwood trees. It's a beautiful setting to spark some romance or just relax.

Historic Main Station

The Featherbed Railroad Main Station has been here for about 100 years. Built originally as a resort, it still serves that purpose today with its Grand Dining Hall and Gathering Place.

The first remodeling project we undertook was to the kitchen, bringing it up to modern standards and outfitting it with all stainless steel surfaces in accordance with health code and restaurant-grade practices. We then remodeled the dining room with new carpeting and even outfitted it with multimedia capabilities. Even with the multimedia meeting facilities, the most prominent feature is the lava rock fireplace which has been rebuilt and is a great place to get cozy in the winter.

We are so happy to serve breakfast made fresh daily from locally-sourced ingredients. We seek out local growers to supply as much of the meal as possible, then use these fabulous ingredients for a real, hearty breakfast. Our eggs come from free-range chickens, and our sausage is specially prepared for us by a local butcher.

Boat Dock and Launch

Many of our guests bring their boats, jet skis, kayaks or other water craft and enjoy the beauty of Clear Lake as part of their vacation. Part of your stay at the Featherbed Railroad includes use of our private boat launch to get your boat into the water and the boat dock. Our private pier and boat dock provide a relaxing place to spend some time and many of our guests find fishing off the pier is a rewarding experience.

Many of our guests love the fishing right from the Featherbed Railroad pier. Clear Lake is known for bass and catfish, as well as crappie and hitch.
