Thanksgiving at the Featherbed Railroad

The first Thanksgiving at the Featherbed Railroad was a huge success with guests who became friends and family members sharing turkey with all the trimmings - an unusual treat. This was the first dinner prepared in the Featherbed Kitchen for our guests and we enjoyed the experience so much we'll definitely do it again!

We would like to wish you a very Merry Christmas. We are really grateful to all the people who shared their vacations with us this year as we continually improved our service and food.

Thank you for putting your trust in us. Many of you already have your 2009 reservations and we can't wait to see you again!

As we continue to make upgrades around the property, we're so excited that the Main Station fireplace has been completely rebuilt and is ready to warm us all just in time for Christmas.

All the very best in these holidays and we can't wait to spend time with you in 2009.

A Just Cup of Coffee - Thanksgiving Coffee Company

As a fan of great coffee, Tony has been in search of one since he moved up to Lake County. More specifically, he's been looking for a great cup of coffee to serve his guests. While the typical restaurant coffee is good, it's not great. So, Tony and Peggy have been spending some time looking around at coffee providers.

Recently, on the advice of a friend, Tony & Peggy went to Fort Bragg to the Thanksgiving Coffee Company. Spending about three hours with founder Paul Katzeff we learned about coffee, how to better brew it and how it can actually be a vehicle for change around the world.

For example, the new coffee that we now brew is not only grown organically by small farmers, but is also fair trade coffee. Our new brewing process is also slightly different but the coffee is a world apart from the commercially-available product most people are used to.

So, next time you're in the neighborhood stop by the Featherbed Railroad for a cup of coffee but know that it's no longer just a cup of coffee, but a Just Cup of Coffee.

Lake County Corn Maze

We had a great time at the Sutton Family Farm's Corn Maze, open all October. With a fun interactive game to spell a spooky Halloween word as well as the challenge of finding your way out of the corn, this is a fun way to spend an afternoon. Better yet - go on one of the Flashlight nights! That's when it gets really spooky!

Eye On The Bay's Liam Mayclem, producer Karl Norberg and cameraman Brenson came by to spend time and do a segment on the Featherbed Railroad. This was a really fun afternoon with some terrific people - the show is so fun to watch because the people behind it are so terrific. The segment will air on Thursday, November 20 at 7p.m. on KPIX CBS 5 in San Francisco. Keep watching this show. It's pretty great!

Chevron Gas Card Winner at Washington Mutual

After two weeks of people filling out entry forms at Washington Mutual Bank in Lakeport, we have our winner in our $50 Chevron gas card giveaway. Drum roll please - April Cotton won the gas cards! April is a college student studying at Mendocino College and was very happy with the prize. "I've never won anything in my life," she said.

The Featherbed Railroad had a display up at Washington Mutual Bank for the first portion of August where visitors to the bank could fill out an entry form to win a $50 Chevron Gas Card. All anyone had to do to be eligible was fill out the form correctly - that's it. The drawing was done today at the bank by Nikole who picked one entry that wasn't complete. Our rules said that the form had to be filled out completely to be eligible so she drew again and April's name was chosen!

We'd like to congratulate April Cotton on her first contest win and hope she enjoys many many more lucky days. Pictured above are April and her son, Junior, who was given a conductor's hat when he visited the Featherbed Railroad today to help mom pick up the gas card.

No Name Car Club at Featherbed Railroad

The Featherbed Railroad hosted Denny DuVall, noted Curbside all-around great guy along with the 1950 Ford Panel truck that writes the stories for the Curbside Auto Column's web site. Yes, that is written correctly - the panel truck is the author. To prove it, the panel truck brought along a lot of its stories which Denny posted on the side of the truck.

Along with the truck came many members of Lake County's No Name Car Club, a fun group of people who also brought plenty of great cars as well. The parking lot at the Featherbed Railroad never looked so good!

Movie Night Tuesdays at the Featherbed Railroad - Pictures at the Pool

Tuesday, August 5 was our first Pictures at the Pool night with a 12' movie screen, pot luck barbecue and a movie. To start things off right, we had a movie short - Disorder in the Court - followed by our full-length screening of Pixar's Cars. Until the weather gets lousy, we're going to show a movie every Tuesday at our pool or on the front lawn. Bring something to share, something to drink and a lawn chair! We'll provide the place and the picture.

Guest Whistle Blowers - Our Friendly Lake County Officials

Every noon we blow the diesel locomotive whistle on the roof of the Main Station. Today a number of guests from the County of Lake came to blow the horn. The people who came to visit are part of the reason Lake County has such an exceptional government-business relationship. Our county officers are really a great partner in helping a small business succeed and are a big factor in why Peggy and Tony moved up here.

Every noon we blow the diesel locomotive whistle on the roof of the Main Station. Every once in a while a guest gets to be a celebrity whistle blower and today's whistle blower was Maureen Huggins. Maureen came to visit from LowCal and drove up with us. That's Maureen with her hand on the lever, waiting for the noon bell to ring.

Tony & Peggy's Stuff Is Here!

It's Wednesday, and an entire Semi of stuff has arrived. It must be Tony & Peggy's furniture. But, more exciting, Jessica is the first out of the truck. Our movers were terrific - they were from Broadway Moving and Storage. We couldn't have asked for more - they were professional, everything arrived safely and the staff were wonderful.

Peggy's mom, Roberta, is up for a visit to the Featherbed. One of the special things we like to do is let a particular guest pull the noon whistle and today was Roberta's turn. Incidentally, every day at noon we blow a diesel locomotive horn on the roof of the Main Station building. The neighbors have come to set their watches by it!

The Bicycles are Ready!

Our restoration specialist, Joe, has done some magic on the bicycles. Both our tandem bikes and our beach cruiser are ready for action! If you want to come up and get some exercise, we're ready for you! Just to make sure, Joe took the bicycles out for a test drive and they rode around perfectly.
