Of course, like most things, it goes great with bacon!
- 1 loaf of French bread cubed
- 6 eggs
- 3/4 cup orange juice
- 3/4 cup half and half
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tsp. vanilla
- 1/4 stick of cold butter, cut into cubes
- 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
- Chopped pecans
- 3/4 stick of butter
- 3/4 cup of orange juice
- 3/4 cup sugar
When ready to bake, take ramekins out of refrigerator, preheat oven to 375 degrees.
Cut streusel ingredients together with pastry blender, until you have a crumb consistency. Top a heaping teaspoonful of streusel on each ramekin and spread around. Bake for 35 to 40 minutes, until bread puffs up and when you press on it no liquid comes to surface. Last 5 minutes of baking, sprinkle with pecans and finish baking.
While french toast is baking, mix together syrup ingredients, place in small sauce pan and bring to a boil. Turn down heat to a simmer and reduce liquid a little bit.
Remove ramekins from oven and let stand for 10 to 15 minutes before serving. Serve syrup on the side, in a small pitcher.
Makes 6 servings.
