Over the past seven years there have been more and more groups that come to the Featherbed Railroad here in Northern California's wine country and we love them. In particular, we’ve had quite a few car clubs as well as motorcycle clubs who find us to be a great group destination retreat. Of course you can’t forget wedding parties, family reunions, business and company retreats and others. With our newly-revamped picnic grounds there are lots of options for taking advantage of the beautiful setting the mother nature has established here.
When groups stay with us we have a number of unique options available. There are such great wineries in the area and several of them love to come pour wine tastings when we have groups. We also now have two breweries in the area, each with a unique style, and they are happy to do tastings for groups as well. We’ve definitely got the wine and beer covered with local offerings and we’re thrilled with the quality of what’s available here.
Having a group barbecue is also a fun event in the picnic grounds and we’ve are happy to do a tri-tip barbecue for your group or we can also make Tony’s award-winning peanut butter & jelly chili. Yes, it really has peanut butter & jelly in it, but just a wee bit. We get our USDA Prime tri-tip from a terrific local butcher and we love slow-grilling it with a unique blend of spices that just makes it mouth watering.
We now have a proper toilet adjacent to the picnic grounds and the ice machine has been moved next to the pool. Heck, there’s even a door from the pool to the restroom so that the only “p” in pool will be the first letter of the word. We are also putting a soda pop machine in the pool shed so that there will be sodas for those who want them.
There are picnic tables for up to 40 butts and we’ve put a fire pit in the picnic grounds with plenty of wood (season permitting). It’s a great place to spend the evening with your friends and club members.
Maybe the reason we love car clubs so much is that we also have an on-line car show calendar that has been a really popular website for 12 years now. Curbside was recently completely revamped and features a whole new look plus it’s totally compatible with your mobile device so you can find great car shows anywhere you are. There is a fun blog about vintage vehicles and there are also stories from contributing editor Denny DuVall, certified auto nut. We call Curbside “The Pot Hole on the Information Superhighway™”
If you’re part of a club or group or would like to have your family reunion here, give us a call. We’ve got our newly-refreshed picnic grounds waiting for you and we’re happy to help plan group activities and events. If you’re thinking of reserving in 2015 we urge expediency as the weekends are quickly filling up, though we have even better deals available for week-day getaways.
